Nature Inspectorate
One of the major goals of Pasvik Nature Reserve is to protect fragile arctic nature.

Nature inspectorate's work is focused on following aspects:

  • conservation and restoration of natural complexes;
  • control of changes caused by the negative anthropogenic impact;
  • forest sanitary and fire safety maintenance;
  • natural hazards prevention.
Preservation of the fragile Arctic nature is one of the main tasks of the nature reserve.

The activities of the nature reserve's state rangers are focused on the following aspects:


  • preservation and restoration of nature complexes;
  • mitigation of negative anthropogenic impact;
  • sanitary and fire safety maintenance;
  • prevention of dangerous natural hazards.
Protection regime
Nature inspectorate patrols nature reserve's territory on a regular basis. The routes and patrol schedule are based on the State target.

What is done for fire control?

Limitation of forest fires spread:

  • forest roads construction in ways to provide free transit for motor vehicles carrying fire-extinguishing loads and equipment; setting entrances to natural water sources for water abstraction by firefighting tankers and motorized pumps.

Prevention of forest fires:

  • fire-fighting awareness campaign, lectures on forest fire safety for locals, publications on the importance of forests in the local mass media;

  • placement of fire-fighting notices, publications on nature conservation and nature awareness. We regularly publish information about fire seasons on our official web-site and social media.

Maintaining fire safety:

  • clearing the excursion routs and nearby areas, trails and recreation facilities improvement.

Accident-preventive measures:

  • A fire-fighting plan approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation.

  • Fire-fighting rules developed for extinguishing forest fires on the territory of Pasvik State Nature Reserve.

Forest fires spread limitation:

  • furnishing of the forests roads, which provide free ride for automotive transport carrying fire-extinguishing loads and equipment; setting of entrances with firefighting tankers and motorizes pumps providing natural water sources.

Forest fires prevention:

  • forest firefighting propaganda, lectures on fire safety in the forests for local communities, publications on the importance of forests in the local mass media;

  • placement of firefighting booklets, printed product production concerning nature conservation and careful attitude to it. We regularly place the information about firefighting periods at the nature reserve's website and in official groups of the nature reserve on social media.

Fire security provision:

  • cleaning of the excursion trials and nearby territories, improvement of trails and recreation areas.

Organizational and technical measures:

  • The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation has developed and approved a plan to extinguish forest fires on the territory of Pasvik State Nature Reserve of Murmansk region.

  • There are rules developed for extinguishing forest fires on the territory of Pasvik State Nature Reserve during fire-dangerous period.
Before and during fire season our staff takes the following measures:
Fire briefing meetings.
    Theoretical training classes on basic fire safety:

    • fire-fighting rules;
    • fire-fighting methods;
    • fire-fighting equipment for extinguishing forest fires on the territory of Pasvik State Nature Reserve.
    For fire safety on the protected area, the management of Pasvik Nature Reserve established a voluntary fire brigade from among the reserve's staff.

    Сlasses in the framework of the theoretical training program on fire-technical minimum of knowledge with staff members of the nature reserve:

    • rules for extinguishing forest fires on the territory of Pasvik State Nature Reserve;
    • ways to extinguish wildfires;
    • equipment for fire extinguishing.
    For a stable fire-fighting situation on the territory of the protected areas, the administration of Pasvik Nature Reserve has created a voluntary fire brigade from among the reserve's staff members.
    Cooperation with Border Federal Security Service of the Karelian Republic
    The nature reserve is located in the border zone, so the state nature inspectorate works closely with the Border Federal Security Service of the Karelian Republic.

    Every year we develop a joint action plan to exercise powers in the state border and environment protection.
